We have finally chosen a name for our soon to be born son: Isaiah Daniel Wright. The naming process brought out a lot of nit-picky rules in me about what names I like and don’t like. For instance I don’t like hard sounds like ‘k’ or ‘x’, so names like Isaac and Alexander were off the table. I also didn’t want a name that would be shortened easily by people too lazy to call him by his full name. For example, I like the name Benjamin but I didn’t want people calling him “Ben”. I also didn’t want his name to be shortened down to initials. For instance, one of the names that got shot down because of this rule was “Daniel Jacob”, I didn’t want people to start calling him “DJ”.
There were a number of names that I liked but were already taken up by friends or family members. For instance I really like the names Stephen and Timothy but I didn’t want to use those names because they are the names of two of my brothers (and oh, that timothy is one shady character, jk). There were other names that I liked but have lately had some negative connotations to me with people I have known, like David.
I’m sure that I had more rules that also drove Alina crazy through out this process, but hey, it’s all over now. So what’s in the name “Isaiah Daniel”? Well, Isaiah means “YAHWEH (or, God) is salvation”. And Daniel means “God is my judge”. I like the the idea that the names together show that God is our judge and because of His Son we have salvation. I love how they together tell a great story.
Oh, and just as a reference…
Alina means “noble or kind”
Rachael means “innocent lamb”
Dustin means “valiant fighter” (don’t believe me, check it)
So, I am a valiant fighter that defends my noble wife and innocent daughter through the strength of Yahweh my salvation.
Hmmm, sounds dramatic.

Congratulations on your new son. We had our 3rd (and hopefully last!) child last summer. We named him Nathaniel Luke. Being a parent is one of the best jobs you can do!
Every baby name has a name meaning. Some names with multiple origins have more than one meaning. Look below to see the meaning of the name Isiah.
Hebrew meaning of the boy´s name Isiah:
* God’s helper
Hey guy, I was having a hard time locating a reference for the name Isaiah meaning God’s Helper. I did find one in passing, but it seems that the more often used definition of the name is God is salvation…

Oh, and by the way, I looked for a definition of the name “guy on the web” but was unable to find anything in the Hebrew or Greek languages.
Thanks for the comment.
Hey watch what you say about Timothy!!! Also, can’t Daniel be shortened down to Dan…Just saying :).
Hey Tim. That’s exactly why it’s his middle name instead of his first. And hey, at least I didn’t make fun of Moriah. Hehe.
